Remodeling Your Kitchen On A Budget

This post is sponsored by Mosaic Tile Outlet.  All opinions are 100% my own.

I think it’s safe to say that the most used room in our home, is without question, the kitchen. I’d be willing to bet it’s the same for most people. The kitchen is where meals are cooked, snacks are kept, grocery lists are written, and it’s the gathering place for friends and family.  With that being said, your kitchen should be a place you enjoy being!

Around the nine year mark, our kitchen started to feel outdated, boring, and dark. Our home was a spec home, so we didn’t have the opportunity to chose any of the colors, cupboards, counter tops, carpet, etc. When we first moved in, and for years after, I loved the dark baseboards and lighter walls, the black granite counter tops, and wood cupboards. Fast forward 9 years, and I was done.  I wanted light and bright walls, white cupboards, and a kitchen backsplash!

After having this kitchen for nine years, so how a little remodel changes it up.

After convincing my husband, that we did indeed need a kitchen makeover, we started the kitchen re-decorating process. We knew we wanted to keep the cost down, so we kept the current cabinets and painted them white. I added gold hardware, and just like that, new cupboards! We also kept the black granite counter tops, which actually look great against the white cupboards and light gray walls.  Now for that kitchen backsplash that I’ve always wanted!

Since we ended up keeping the black counter tops, I wasn’t sure what color and style of backsplash to choose. Should I go light to match the cupboards and baseboards, or slightly darker to balance things out? Subway tile, vinyl tile, brick, or marble? Decisions, decisions, and let me just say, I’m the worst at making decisions! So fast forward almost a year, and I’m still without a kitchen backsplash.

Lucky for me, I came across, Mosaic Tile Outlet online, and began looking at what they had to offer.  They specialize in backsplashes, they are reasonably priced, and have hundreds of styles and colors to choose from.  After scouring their website, I was able to narrow it down to my 7 favorites. The best part, they send out samples so you can actually see what you’ll be getting!

A backsplash can add a whole new look without breaking the bank.

As you can see, most of the samples I chose were in the gray family. I added in a few darker samples as well as a few lighter ones, just to keep my bases covered.  Once I held each sample up to my wall, I was quickly able to decide on my 2 favorites, the Peel and Stick Linear Brick Grey White Stone-Like Vinyl Mosaic Tile and the Modern Linear White Polished Thassos Marble Mosaic Tile. Both of these options offer simplicity and completeness that will end up providing us with an inviting and neutral cooking space for years to come.

Bathroom Redecorating with Shopko

We’ve been in our current home for nine years, and yet, I still refer to it as our “new house.”  The sad part is, we’ve lived here longer than any other location, so I’m not so sure why I still call it the “new house.”  In the past nine years, a lot of things have changed, but one of the things that has remained the same, is my home decor.  I’m dying to redecorate my entire home, but for some reason, it’s hard for me to decorate.  I can put together an outfit in my sleep, but ask me to decorate a room and I panic.  I decided I’d start small, and so I took on our main bathroom.

I partnered with Shopko for this bathroom remodel and I’m excited with how it turned out. Because this bathroom is mostly used by my boys, I wanted to stick with neutral colors. I decided on a gray and blue color palette.

For the shower curtain, I decided to go outside the box and used actual curtains, instead of your typical shower curtain.  I did this for two reasons. First, I really liked the pattern and colors in these curtains, and second, I liked the idea of being able to separate the two and have one curtain on each side. These are the London Grommet Window Panel Curtains by Envision Studio.

I figured there was no reason to try and be fancy when it came to decorating the towel rack, as it’s sole purpose is to hang towels.  These bath towels are by the brand, Hotel by Club Grand, which is a new line at Shopko. They are plush and super soft and I think I need to purchase some more for my bathroom.

I fell in love with this Rug the moment I saw it.  I love how it starts dark and grows lighter until it becomes white and then darkens back up.  The perfect rug for the boys to stand on while they brush their teeth and comb their hair, so their feet don’t freeze on the cold tile.

Another new line being sold at Shopko, is Le Petit Marseillais Bath Soap.  It smells just like oranges and will hopefully help wash away that “boy”smell that comes with teenage boys. Unfortunately, it looks like the bath soap has sold out online, so hopefully you’ll be able to locate in store.

I’m very pleased with the final look and outcome of this bathroom.  I hope this post has given you some ideas of your own if you’re looking to redecorate at your own home. You can check out my board here, where I have a few other bathroom items I love as well.
